| Ilustration : BMW 320d |
The numbers say that the 320d produces 181hp and 280lb ft of torque (380Nm) between 1750 and 2750rpm, allowing it to sprint from zero to 62mph in 7.5sec and on to a top speed of 146mph (235km/h). These are some decent performance figures especially when you combine them with an official 62.8mpg UK fuel economy and 119g/km of CO2 emissions.
What the numbers don’t say is that the 320d is perhaps one of the brightest examples of how to create a compact executive sedan with a diesel unit under its bonnet. The engine is smooth and pulls really strong when needed while it really uses its fuel with the utmost self-restraint.
And despite the heavier engine, the BMW 320d still retains the fine handling character of its petrol siblings, to the point where the most important question arises: Do you need anything more than a BMW 320d?
